KATHMANDU, Feb 27: Democratic Socialist Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur has said that his party is in favor of the US-aid Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement.

Participating in a discussion in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday, he said that the United States has been assisting in the development of Nepal, adding that the MCC grant should also be accepted as it would be spent on power transmission lines and road network.

“The United States has been supporting Nepal as a development partner for more than seven decades. In the national interest or in every sphere of national life, the country seems to have assisted to some extent,” said Chairman Thakur. "This grant is aimed at increasing the economic growth rate and reducing poverty in Nepal. It has specified its sector which is based on the threshold maintained by Nepal itself.”

He claimed that there was no need to doubt as Nepal had brought the grant only after fulfilling the criteria.
