JANAKPUR/ITAHARI, Aug 29: Activists of Madhesi Youth Forum clashed with the police at several places in Janakpur on Saturday. The clashes ensued after the police intervened in a protest organized by the forum against the Supreme Court order in vice president´s oath row. [break]
The police intervened after the forum tried to enforce a banda. During the clash, over 10 policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector, were injured.
Forum´s district president Mukesh Yadav was among over 10 persons injured in the clashes. Many the injured were passer-bys who were hit by the stones halted at the police by the activists.
Meanwhile, Unified CPN-Maoist Dhanusa in-charge Dinesh Yadav has threatened that his party will resort to armed revolt if the administration did not maintain restrain. Stating that all have the right to protest in a republican country, he accused the police of using excessive force against peaceful protestors.
The youth bodies affiliated with Madhesi parties have been protesting the Supreme Court´s decision asking the vice president to take fresh oath in Nepali. On Friday, United Madhesi Students´ Front took out a huge torch rally and burned copies of the SC decision.
In Inaruwa of Sunsari, four activists of Joint Madhesi Struggle Committee were injured in a clash with police when they were trying to enforce a transportation strike on Saturday to protest the Supreme Court ruling to Parmananda Jha to take his oath of office in Nepali.
The clash ensued after the protesters started vandalizing vehicles. Those injured are the committee´s coordinator SN Mehta, Mahendra Yadav, Rajendra Prasad Sah and Gulab Chandra Sharma.
Police arrested nice individuals including Mehta after the clash and released them later in the evening, the police said.
The protesters vandalized over a dozen of vehicles including three trucks, two buses and a jeep.
