Speaking at a function organized by the Morcha in the capital on Monday, advocates and student leaders hailing from Tarai said that Hindi language should be recognized as official language and demanded a constitutional amendment ensuring the rights of the president and vice-president´s to take oath in the language of their choice.
They also demanded that the SC should "amend its mistake." They also pointed at the ´fake encounters´ being carried out against Tarai armed factions and said that the new security plan is directed at "crushing the Tarai movement". They also called upon the political party leaders to "stick to their commitment" on "One Madhes, One Pradesh" policy.
Addressing the function entitiled "VP´s oath-taking row and actual solution", advocate Brijendra Chaudhary, who is the vice-president of the Morcha said, "Discrimination is widest in judiciary and media. Madhesis are worst-affected in these two sectors."
Mithilesh Jha, Parmananda Jha´s lawyer, opined that the new constitution must protect the ´linguistic right´ of the long-neglected Tarai people.
Speakers included SC advocate Surendra Mahato, TU professor Sangita Barma and Bhaskar Kafle of All Nepal National Free Students´ Union, among others.
