Speaking at a cross party Madhesi lawmakers meeting in the capital on Wednesday evening, they said that they would move together for Madhesi causes.[break]
“We will defy our party´s whip if it is against Madhesi rights,” said UCPN (Maoist) Central Committee Member Ramrijahn Yadav.
Senior Leader of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) Sharat Singh Bhandari said that they decided to move together with lawmakers from indigenous, marginalized and other backward communities on the basis of our common concerns.
“We decided to move ahead collectively with lawmakers from indigenous, marginalized and other backward communities in the CA,” Bhandari added.
Lawmakers from Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Jitendra Sonal said they would hold issue wise discussion with lawmakers from indigenous community before voting on contentious issues of the new constitution.
“We will hold talks on federal government, ethnicity-based federalism among other issues before voting,” Sonal maintained.
Vice-chairman of Sadbhawna Party (SP) Laxmanlal Karna said that they would request the CA not to conduct voting on contentious issues of the new constitution on Thursday, if scheduled for that day.
“As we need further preparation, we concluded that the Madhesi alliance should ask the CA to postpone the voting on Thursday,” Karna stated.
Speaking at the meeting Professor Krishna Hathechhu said that Madhesi and indigenous can´t get their right until they are united. He also maintained that ethnic identity cannot not be incorporated if less than 10 federal states were formed.
