Madhesi, Janajati parties set to announce alliance Monday

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: With the aim to form a unified party in the near future, two Madhes-based political parties including Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) and five Janajati parties are all set to announce an alliance and common strategies Monday.



According to a senior leader who participated in several rounds of negotiations for formation of the alliance, they will unveil the name of their alliance amid a press conference in the capital.[break]



"We have named our alliance as Federal Democratic Forum (FDF)," said the leader on condition of anonymity. "For the time being, we will work together for our common causes for the time being but we will move ahead with a long-term aim to form a unified political party."



Another leader of party, which is to join the alliance, said they have also mentioned in the concept paper of the alliance is that they aim to form a unified party. The common concept paper of the alliance has been endorsed by the central committees of all parties that will join the alliance.



"Our alliance will be different from other alliances because we aim to form a unified political party," the leader described about their future alliance.



According to Madhesi and Janajati leaders, MPRF, National Madhes Socialist Party (NMSP), Tamsaling Nepal Rastriya Dal (TNRD), Rastriya Janamukti Party, Khambuwan Swayatta Rajya Parishad, Janamukti Party Nepal and Nepal Shanti Samaj Party will be accommodated in the new alliance.



MPRF and NMSP were the constituent parties of the erstwhile Broader Madhesi Front (BMF) while TNRD had supported agitation programs of the BMF.



"We will make public not only our stance on the current political situation but also our common position on the issues of social justice, federalism and new constitution and inclusion, among other issues," said the leader.



"New constitution must guarantee federalism and federal states should be delineated on the basis of single identity," stated the leader, adding, "And new constitution must be promulgated from Constituent Assembly."



The leaders said that representation of all communities in the state mechanisms should be proportionate to the population of the respective communities.



MPRF Chairman Upendra Yadav said they have been attempting to unify various political parties both from the hills and the Tarai.



"We have been holding talks with leaders with clean profile and right policy," stated Yadav, adding, "There will be unification with parties of similar ideology."
