KATHMANDU, March 26: The fifth edition of Made in Nepal Expo is being held at Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall in Kathmandu from April 10.

According to Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs' Forum (NYEF) -- the organizer of the event, the four-day expo aims to promote services and products of local manufacturers and encourage people to use local products whenever possible.

Organizing a press meet in the capital on Wednesday, the organizers said that the event is a part of 'Made in Nepal' campaign being run by NYEF for the past 10 years. The campaign aims to give value to Nepali products and services.

"We have been organizing the event in this theme for the past four years. Like past years, the expo will raise awareness among people to discourage the use of foreign brand products and use locally manufactured products whenever possible," Niranjan Shrestha, president of NYEF said. "We also aim to promote local products in international market."

Stating that trade deficit gap will not go down unless people give priority to Nepali products, Shrestha said many people feel that Nepali products are not on par with foreign products in terms of quality. "Once people realize that Nepali products can compete with foreign products in terms of price and quality, contribution of Nepal's industrial sector to national economy will increase significantly," he added.

According to Shrestha, the event aims to provide platform for domestic products and not just make money.

The expo will have 130 stalls showcasing Nepali readymade garments, home appliances, electric goods, cosmetics, footwear product, food products and pashmina products, among others.

The organizers have fixed entry fee at Rs 20. However, visitors wearing Nepali apparels will get free entry to the expo. NYEF is expecting participation of more than 100,000 visitors.

Meanwhile, Shivam Cement -- the title sponsor of the event -- has signed a sponsorship agreement for the event with NYEF for three years. "We are supporting NYEF in this event because we believe that the country cannot achieve economic prosperity unless locally manufactured gets proper market access," Surendra Kumar Goyel, chairman of Shivam Cement, said.
