KATHMANDU, Jan 27: UK actress Joanna Lumley was honored for her Gurkha campaign when she was presented with the Oldie of the Year award in London on Tuesday, UK media reports said.

Lumley, 63, received her prize from veteran broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan. Each year, The Oldie, a magazine run by Richard Ingrams, recognizes those of mature years for their efforts.

The Absolutely Fabulous star led a high-profile battle to win rights for Gurkhas who fought in the British Army. Inspired by her soldier father, who served for 30 years as an officer with the 6th Gurkha Rifles, she championed the Nepalese fighters´ cause.

The Government changed the immigration rules to allow all Gurkhas with four years´ service to settle in the UK.
