Acharya needed 44 votes to achieve a majority in the provincial assembly. With the majority of the assembly voting in his favor, Speaker Tularam Gharti announced that CM Acharya had secured the majority.

Acharya was appointed CM on July 22. He became CM with the support of 56 MPs, including 29 from the UML and 27 from the Nepali Congress (NC), and took the oath of office and secrecy on July 24.

As per Article 168 of the Constitution, the then-provincial chief, Amik Sherchan, appointed Acharya as the province CM. Along with CM Acharya, eight other ministers also took the oath of office and secrecy on July 24.

The current NC-UML alliance has finalized the division of responsibilities, with the UML taking the lead in the provincial government. According to this agreement, UML's parliamentary party leader, Leela Giri, was set to become the CM of the province. However, the UML decided to appoint Deputy Leader Acharya as CM instead.

Party leader Giri, dissatisfied with the appointment of Deputy Leader Acharya as CM, resigned from his post.
