Losses of lives, property from water-induced disasters in Pyuthan

PYUTHAN, July 26: A woman died when a landslide hit her home at Lung VDC-6 in Pyuthan last night. The deceased has been identified Sobha Rijal.

However, other members of the family managed to escape from falling under the debris of flattened house.

Similarly, an unidentified girl of around 12 years of age was found dead beneath the Bagdula River bridge while one more body was recovered from the beneath the cemented bridge over the Jhimruk River. The third body was found under a river bridge at Khaira.

Landslide-related incidents have inflicted damages on a dozen of houses at Khawang Rajbara and Arkha VDCs. However, no human casualty from there has been yet reported.

Likewise, a body was found in the dam site of Khaira Butwal Power Company based in the Jhimruk River, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranjit Singh Rathour said.

Waters level in the river has reached the highest degree in 14 years. The production of Butwal Power Company remained suspended for the past two days, following an intense velocity of the river. 
Likewise, Kalika BK and Pabitra Pun have gone missing in a landslide occurred at Lung-6. 

Meanwhile, around 900 families of Rajabara VDC are living in dark after floodwaters completely destroyed micro power hydro projects here, as said by a local Jogendra Malla. The Tharakhola, Tikhachuli and Siringkhola micro hydro power plants were completely destroyed by floods. 

Likewise, three micro hydro projects based in Arkha VDC were swept away in floodwaters. 
Floodwaters washed away the entire physical infrastructure belonging to the Sarimakhola Micro Hydropower Project in Syaulibang VDC. RSS
