Logo and mascot of 13th SAG unveiled

KATHMANDU, May 14: The official logo and mascot for the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) have been unveiled during an official program held at Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) in Kathmandu on Monday.

KATHMANDU, May 14: The official logo and mascot for the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) has been unveiled during an official program held at Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) in Kathmandu on Monday.


The Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Bishwakarma and Member-Secretary of National Sports Council (NSC) Keshav Kumar Bista unveiled the images and prototypes in the function.

Bholanath Paudel won the open contest to design the logo organized by the Preparation and Management Committee of SAG, said Bista. 


The representation of pigeon as messenger of peace and mountains as identity of Nepal won the first prize for the logo design. “His logo gives the message of brotherhood and unity,” said Bista. Paudel received the cash prize of Rs 100,000 for the design.

Similarly, an endangered species blackbuck will be the official mascot for the upcoming event.

In the program, a taskforce on budget management was formed under the leadership of NSC Vice-president Pitambbar Timsina. NSC’s Bista, sports ministry’s Ana Prasad Neupane and Navaraj Ghimire are members of the committee.  


Also, member of NSC, Ganga Bahadur Thapa, will head the technical committee for the upcoming event.


Thapa will lead the four-member committee which includes Training and Coaching Department Director Rim Ranabhat, former director Parth Sarathi Sen Gupta and Nepal Olympic Committee’s Sujan Lal Shrestha.


Bista informed that a budget of Rs 400 million will be needed for smooth regulation of the event. Officials said a proposal to this effect has already been sent to the Finance Ministry.


Likewise, Bista said construction work of Dasaratha Stadium, Pokhara Stadium and swimming pool with the heating facility at Satdobato will be completed on time for the organization of respective sports events.


Similarly, the upcoming NSC National Championships will be the benchmark for the selection of athletes and players for the upcoming SAG. 


The top performers will be called up for a closed-camp before the final list will be announced for the participation in the events. However, the technical committee is yet to provide a final confirmation for the selection process.


The SAG games have been scheduled for December 1 to 10.
