ITAHARI, Aug 8: Tensions gripped Thadiya village in Dulari Village Development Committee of Morang district on Sunday after a clash between locals and transport workers.

The clash erupted after a local, Naresh Kharel, protested misbehavior of a bus driver, Prem Bahadur Karki, and its helper Hem BK with a traffic policeman who asked them not to station the bus at a ´no parking´ area.

According to the police, the driver attacked Kharel with a rod inviting a clash between the locals and the transport workers that left six persons seriously injured. The injured, including Kharel, Karki and BK are being treated at a local health post, the police said.

The situation worsened after the driver and helper brought their friends from Salakpur on a bus to counter the locals. Locals vandalized both the buses.

Police said they were trying to take the situation under control.

Meanwhile, tensions erupted in Gaurigunj and Khajurgachhi of Jhapa early Sunday morning after police nabbed two persons on charge of stabbing a person. In the ensuing scuffle, police fired two rounds of tear gas shells to contain the situation.

Police had earlier arrested Dewan Rajbanshi and Krishna Mahato for stabbing another local, Haridip Singh. Police resorted to use force after locals tried to torch Dewan´s house.
