Madi Police had organized a public discussion two weeks ago where people complained about ineffective policing. The police had said they didn't have adequate vehicles for patrolling and fuel.
"We felt that we should do something after learning that the police lacked adequate resources. We managed to provide bicycles after raising a fund from the locals," informed Shree Prasad Dawadi who was active in collecting fund for purchasing bicycles. The locals have provided air pumps and five torches along with the bicycles to the police. Each bicycle was purchased at the cost of Rs 7,000. Madi municipality located in Southern Chitwan has a population of around 60,000.
According to Inspector Nirmal Kumar Thapa, only 66 police personnel have been deployed in the area.
"We receive at least one complaint about domestic violence everyday but are unable to patrol the site due to lack of enough resources," informed Thapa, adding, "Bicycles will help us patrol the areas and reach the crime site on time."
