DHULIKHEL, April 19: The locals of Jhinganpur at Paanchkhal Municipality – 4 have been relying on water fetched on a traditional vessel for years.

The village does not have a water supply system and faces drinking water crisis every now and then. The villagers draw water from a well located at the village's centre.

"We have been running our houses everyday relying on a vessel full of water, there is only one well in the entire village and it is not sufficient and when we divide water each of the villagers receive only a vessel full of water," local Parwati Shrestha said.

Another local, Abhimanyu Dhungana, said the entire village has to rely on a single well as there are no other alternate sources of drinking water. He added that the well is located at a distance of half an hour's walk from his house and that he has to queue up, for sometimes hours, to fetch water.

The well is locked most of the time as it is the only reliable source of water for the villagers. It is opened for two hours every morning. Bhagwati Dhungana, another local villager, said, "The water accumulated during the day and night is distributed among the villagers within two hours every morning." "During the school days, five vessels filled with water are allocated for the school and then only it is distributed among the villagers," Bhagwati added.

She shared further that the villagers will have no alternative but to go down to the river once the water dries up in the well. A total of 35 households rely on the water drawn from the well. RSS
