The university has halted yearly examinations including the final exams of undergraduate level. This is the first time that the university has been shut down. The closure has affected 1,700 students studying in the university.
Registrar Dr Bhadra Man Tuladhar said the exam was halted due to disturbances from locals. School of Management at Balkumari, Lalitpur, has taken the responsibility of conducting the undergraduate examinations for the university. Other examinations will be conducted during the long-term breaks.
When the university denied a proposal made by locals of Bakhundol in Dhulikhel-7 to educate every student in the locality and to give jobs to local people, the community people launched protests.
As the university did not meet needs of the people at the Bakhundol area where the university first appeared as Kathmandu Valley Campus, they have closed down the road near the university since Sunday.
The principle and teachers have been asked to leave their quarters on Wednesday. The university also turned back the students who had come for new admission.
