JAJARKOT, Dec 3: Although the locals have been demanding construction of a suspension bridge over Seureni river located at Junichande rural municipality for the past 15 years, the government agencies concerned have failed to show interest to meet locals’ demand.

A local Resham Bahadur Khadka said they have been demanding the construction of a suspension bridge with almost all elected local level leaders including the Constituent Assembly member Bhakta Bahadur Shah and lawmakers of the federal parliament. “But none of our representatives have taken initiatives to build one yet,” he said..

Khadka shared that locals of around half a dozen villages including Luhadaha and Kotang are forced to put their lives at risk during the rainy season due to lack of a suspension bridge.

Scores of people have lost their lives while crossing the River, said Hari Bahadur Khadka, Chairperson of Junichande Rural Municipality-4.

"Applications were submitted time and again at the then District Development Committee for the construction of the bridge from 2064 BS. We also informed lawmakers for the same," he said, adding that the rural municipality has incorporated the issue in its policy and programme for the past six years. However, the plan to build a suspension bridge has not been implemented due to lack of necessary resources.

Chief of Primary Health Centre, Kotang, Binod Kumar Shahi, said people visiting the health center to receive health facilities face problems during the rainy season due to lack of bridges. Businessmen also face problems supplying goods due to the lack of bridge over Seureni River.
