ITAHARI, Jan 31: Locals of Haripur VDC in the Sunsari district have continued their demonstrations on Thursday against the failure of the local authorities to control frequent wild elephant attacks on human settlements.

Due to the demonstrations, traffic movement in the area has been badly affected.

Locals started demonstrations following the death of Bholbhidevi Mukhiya, 70, early Wednesday morning.  A wild elephant, which had entered the village from Koshi Tappu Wild Life Reserve, had trampled Mukhiya to death.

Locals had shut down the East-West Highway protesting the incident. A clash had also erupted between police and locals after police used force to clear the road.
