Local youths in collaboration with Hyolmo Society of America distribute first round of relief in lower Helambu

KATHMANDU, June 25: Local youths from Melamchi Ghyang, Dhusum and Tembathang, in collaboration with the Hyolmo Society of America (HSA), distributed relief materials and cash to flood and landslide victims of Timbu and Haldey of Helambu Rural Municipality- 1 on Friday.

KATHMANDU, June 25: Local youths from Melamchi Ghyang, Dhusum and Tembathang, in collaboration with the Hyolmo Society of America (HSA), distributed relief materials and cash to flood and landslide victims of Timbu and Haldey of Helambu Rural Municipality- 1 on Friday.


The relief included food supplies (rice, dal, cooking oil, and salt), mattresses, blankets, sanitation materials and medical supplies.

The group also distributed Rs 10,000 each to those families whose family members were killed and displaced and Rs 5,000 each to those families displaced by the devastating flash flood in Melamchi River on June 16.


The HSA organized a crowdfunding in America to support the people of Helambu and provide relief materials to the victims, according to HSA.


Likewise, Surjey Bajra Lama, from Bauddha, Kathmandu also contributed Rs 150,000 to this noble cause.


The group is soon to distribute food supplies in the higher belt of Helambu-1 including, Ghangyul, Tarkeghyang, Melamchi Ghyang, Nakote, Tembathang among other villages.


Helambu was largely hit by a devastating landslide and flash flood on June 16. Many have been killed and gone missing. It has almost been 10 days, but electricity and communication networks are yet to resume in the region.
