KATHMANDU, Oct 19: Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) has urged all organizations and civil society bodies within the metropolis to take precautions to prevent the spread of dengue infection.
LMC Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan issued a statement on Friday, calling on government and non-governmental organizations, private offices, educational institutions, foreign diplomatic missions, and civil society groups to take action.
Dengue infection spreads over 71 districts
The LMC has prohibited the indiscriminate disposal of used plastic cups and broken flower pots. During field inspections, officials found discarded plastic cups and broken pots from beverages, which can promote mosquito breeding. Therefore, the LMC has banned the careless disposal of these items.
The statement issued by the LMC reads, "Do not indiscriminately dispose of plastic containers, such as tire tubes, to prevent water accumulation around the house and within compounds."
The LMC has also urged residents to conduct a campaign to search for and eliminate mosquito larvae in their home compounds at least once a week.
It has also advised managing containers such as cisterns, buckets, plastic, and tin cans to prevent water accumulation. The metropolitan city stated in the release that water in flower pots and saucers should be cleaned every week.
