Though this scheme had failed to attract the farmers earlier, farmer's interest has increased towards following an awareness campaign the office launched recently.
“We felt that the farmers should be made aware about benefits and importance of having a livestock insurance policy. So, we launched various awareness programs in Beni Municipality and 35 village development committees,” said livestock technician Dilli Ram Regmi. He claimed that the programs have been highly effective in attracting farmers towards insuring their livestock.
According to him, 150 goats, 11 mule, and 16 buffalos have been insured so far this fiscal year. Farmers in the district now have easy access to the insurance scheme after Prabhu Insurance Company opened a branch in the district recently.
Stating that the insurance scheme is very important for the overall development of agriculture, Dr. Daya Ram Chapagain, chief of the District Livestock Service Office (DLSO) said they would make the insurance scheme more attractive in the next fiscal year.
“Farmers should not suffer big losses in the event they loose their livestock. And to ensure this, it is important that farmers signup for a livestock insurance policy,” he said.
