Lidi landslide death toll reaches 37, two still missing

SINDHUPALCHOWK, Sept 1: With one more dead body recovered from the landslide debris on Tuesday morning, the number of people dying after being buried in a landslide in Lidi, Sindhupalchowk district, has climbed to 37.

A joint team of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police personnel on Tuesday extracted the mortal remains of Subash Pakhri, 17. The squad had recovered the dead bodies of Prakash Dong, 25, Saili Dong, 24 and their two-year-old son Aayush Dong earlier on Monday afternoon, according to Sindhupalchowk police.

The massive landslide that took place at Lidi of Jugal Rural Municipality earlier on August 14 swept away 37 houses and left 39 locals missing in the debris. Two people are still missing in the incident.

At least 121 households were displaced from their original settlement following the incident. They were relocated to temporary shelters in  Jugal-2, Banskharka of Selang.
