KATHMANDU, July 31: It is found that only news on education related to policy, political leaders and formal programmes has been getting space in the national media.
This is a finding of a content analysis of various seven national dailies (both English and Nepali language) carried out by the Education Journalists' Group (EJG). The Group had done the content analysis of these dailies from February 12 to July 15.
However, the Group found that there was less number of news on quality education and investigative news on allied issues.
The Group studied a total 1181 news related to education carried by these dailies in the period. Among this number of news analyzed, 666 are from places outside the Kathmandu Valley and 515 from within the Valley.
Similarly, of the 1181 news studied, 668 are formal news while 493 are investigative reports. Likewise, 509 news are related to teaching-learning, 150 to accountability, 138 to examinations and only 25 to quality education.
EJG president Deepak Dahal, speaking in the programme organized here today to share the finding of the study, said although the media has given place to issues on education, the number of news on quality education and investigative news related to this was very less.
Group general secretary Seshkanta Pandit said the EJG has been holding regular interactions among the editors and reporters by conducting such studies and analyses frequently. RSS
