KATHMANDU, Nov 22: The chiefs of Maoists´ State Affairs Committees have criticized the party leadership for withdrawing the picketing of the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and declaration of autonomous provinces, which were in the last of the party´s second phase protests demanding civilian supremacy.

The party had withdrawn the protests under pressure from foreign diplomats. “It is nothing short of surrender,” the state affairs committee chiefs said, according to party sources.

Despite the party´s decision to withdraw protest programs, Maoist politburo member Gopal Kirati had declared an autonomous province in the far western hill. The leaders also demanded that the party held further discussions on the federal model prepared and submitted to the CA by Standing Committee member Dev Gurung. Some Maoist leaders have opposed Gurung´s model for proposing to bring Ridi, Narayani, Tamakoshi and Bijapur regions under the direct control of federal government.

The Maoist central committee meeting that began on Saturday at the party headquarters in Kathmandu will continue on Monday.
