KATHMANDU, April 5: The leaders of various political parties got engaged in a heated argument in a meeting called by the Election Commission (EC) to discuss local level elections.
EC had called the meeting with 79 political parties to express their commitment to abide by the election code of conduct in the local level election slated for May 13
In the meeting the representatives of various political parties protested against the EC's attempt to make the parties sign a written commitment to abide by the code of conduct without any discussion.
The meeting was affected for a while after the party representatives started raising objections. Although the commission had invited the chiefs of the parties for discussion, the representatives of some parties objected saying that the central members of some parties were also present in the meeting.
