The party leaders said this during an interaction program on the leaked political documents of Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Vice Chairmen Mohan Baidhya and Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai, on Thursday.[break]
At the program organized by the Constitutional Lawyers´ Forum, the leaders further argued that the Maoist push for a dubious People´s Federal Democratic Republic in the country instead of a Federal Democratic Republic as envisioned in the interim constitution, and their unwillingness to complete the integration and rehabilitation of their combatants, also show that the former rebels are not committed to the peace process.
“None of the top three Maoist leaders has written anything on how to complete the peace process. It shows the Maoists are not committed to the peace process,” said CPN-UML leader Khadga Prasad Oli, commenting on the political documents of the top Maoist leaders.
He said Maoist leaders do not have any fundamental differences over ideological issues. “All of them agree that they should launch a people´s revolt to seize state power. The leaders are at loggerheads over technical matters only.”
The UML leader argued that the Maoists want to impose a “revolutionary dictatorship” after seizing state power.
The participants said there is no point believing that the Maoists are in the peace process as they tell one thing to their cadres and quite the opposite to others.
“The activities of the Maoists show that their People´s War has not come to an end,” said Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, adding that the Maoists are using the peace process and the Constituent Assembly (CA) to creatively apply their ideology of Maxist-Leninist-Maoism in Nepal´s context.
Similarly, UML leader Pradip Gyawali argued that the Maoists have not yet relinquished the theory that violence is a must for social change. He said the Maoist rejection of pluralism and an independent judiciary and their push for a government without opposition show that they are not committed to democracy.
Also speaking on the occasion, NC leader Gagan Thapa vociferously demanded that the parties hold serious talks with the Maoists on whether they want the peace process or not. “We should not get entangled over minor issues. It´s now time to hold final talks with the Maoists,” he said.
The party leaders seriously objected to the Maoist plan to allow the participation of their combatants in their forthcoming party plenum. They said that the combatants have theoretically come under the Special Committee, and they cannot retain their status as combatants if they participate in the party´s political program. “The combatants are living on tax payers´ money. If they participate in the party´s program, they should not return to the cantonments,” said Oli.
Similarly, NC leader Mahat said that the combatants will violate their code of conduct if they participate in the plenum. Mahat, who is also a member on the Special Committee, said the combatants lose their status as combatants if they participate in the plenum.
