UDAYAPUR, Nov 15: Lawyers affiliated to Nepal Bar Association (NBA), Udayapur district chapter, have staged a protest against Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana at the call of NBA on Monday.

The agitating lawyers have demanded the resignation of Chief Justice Rana. They staged a protest for two hours as per the instruction of the NBA.

The lawyers staged a protest from 10AM till 12PM outside the District Court by putting black armbands. As many as 60 agitating lawyers boycotted the case hearings scheduled for Monday to join the protest demanding Chief Justice Rana's resignation.

The NBA has directed the lawyers to continue the protest for two hours each day until Chief Justice Rana steps down from his post. The lawyers had staged a protest against Rana on Sunday as well.

Alleging that Chief Justice Rana was not able to maintain the dignity of the judiciary, the NBA has been staging an hour-long sit-in protest demanding his resignation since October 31. The umbrella organization of lawyers across the country has warned of launching stringent protests against Rana across the country.

However, Chief Justice Rana has announced not to resign from his post under pressure and that he will vacate his post through the constitutional process of impeachment. Meanwhile, issuing a statement on Monday, Rana urged the agitating lawyers to resolve the issues of the judiciary through dialogue.
