KATHMANDU, May 4: Members of the National Assembly have called on the government to stop sending students to the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India, citing serious concerns over student safety.
During Sunday's emergency session of the National Assembly, lawmakers emphasized that students seeking to study at KIIT should not be issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs). They said the repeated and unexplained deaths of Nepali female students have raised grave concerns about the institution's ability to ensure student security.

Rastriya Janamorcha lawmaker Tul Prasad Bishwakarma urged the government to immediately halt the NOC process for KIIT. Unified Socialist lawmaker Madankumari Shah echoed this call and also urged parents to remain alert.
During zero hour, Mohammad Khalid of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Shekhar Kumar Singh of the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal, and Krishna Bahadur Rokaya of the Nepali Congress demanded that the government push for a full investigation into the student deaths and take action against those responsible.
Ganga Kumari Belbase of the Maoist Center and Sumitra BC of the UML also called for a thorough probe and strict punishment for anyone found guilty.
