Lawmakers demand further reduction in fuel prices

KATHMANDU, An urgent proposal was registered and discussed at the House of Representatives (HoR) on Friday to reduce the prices of petroleum products in the country. 

CPN-UML Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai said that the ruling party should support the proposal and reduce prices of petroleum products. UML lawmakers also demanded formation of a study committee to study the issue of increasing prices of petroleum products.

Participating in the discussion, Gagan Thapa of the ruling Nepali Congress(NC) said that Nepal should be made a petrol, diesel and LP gas free country within 10 years. Stating that the government has reduced the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per liter, he said that the people should be given relief by further reducing the price.

UML lawmaker Yagya Raj Sunuwar also said that the general public is suffering due to the hike in fuel prices. He said that the decision to hike prices of petroleum products smelled corruption and that this issue should be investigated. He said that prices of petroleum products were hiked twice in a week contrary to the procedure laid down by the government.  

Similarly, other lawmakers and members of UML demanded the government to further lower the prices of petroleum products in the domestic market.
