KATHMANDU, June 10: Parliamentarians in today's meeting of the House of Representatives drew the attention of the government that people's lives were affected in most parts of the country with the onset of monsoon. 


Airing her voice, Man Kumari GC demanded serious consideration for disaster risk reduction and rehabilitation of the victims as monsoon-triggered disasters such as landslides and floods have incurred huge loss of lives and properties across the country.


Similarly, Bhupendra Bahadur Thapa called for rescue and relief packages for the disaster victims. He alleged that the government was not paying attention towards early preparedness for monsoon-induced disasters.

Lawmaker Yasoda Gurung shared that traffic movement was shut down along Prithvi Highway due to landslides and local and provincial governments were coordinating to open the obstructed Highway. 


Lawmaker Rajendra Kumar Rai bemoaned that the farmers are hit hard by fertilizer shortage in the beginning of paddy plantation season. Meena Subba and Bimala BK criticized the government's apathy towards farmers facing fertilizers shortage. 


Rajendra Prasad Lingden and Mahendra Kumari Limbu demanded release of the land reserved by the Kamal Rural Municipality in Jhapa district for construction of railway. 


Mahesh Basnet said that over 25 percent increase in the price of petroleum products such as diesel, petrol as well as materials for the construction sector had posed serious problems to ordinary people. He also asked for introducing programs that would provide respite to the public.


Min Bahadur Bishwakarma cited an incident at a Gurukul (school) in Lalitpur where students from Sunar caste were barred from enrollment. He also demanded action against School's Principal Tej Prasad Bhattarai for promoting caste-based discrimination.


Rambir Manandhar underscored the need to ensure effective management of garbage in Kathmandu district. He also pledged to deliver the service efficiently if he is entrusted with the responsibility for the same by forming a parliamentary committee.


Rangamati Shahi highlighted the problem caused by illegal human trafficking of Nepalis in Gulf countries and others to the cognizance of the government. She also demanded a probe committee on the issue.
