"The pipeline to Dipayal has been swept away at four points by landslides," President of Rajpur Drinking Water Users´ Committee Bhoj Bahadur Shah said. "It will take at least another two weeks to make the pipeline functional," Shah added.
Water supply to over 400 taps has been disrupted in Dipayal alone. "Apart from disrupting water supply, the landslides have also incurred a loss of around Rs 550,000 in pipes and reconstruction on the project," secretary of the committee Shankar Kathayat said.
Meanwhile, the Far West Division of Nepal Army has also been forced to fetch river water while hoteliers in Dipayal have also been hit hard. "We are making do by carrying water from river," proprietor of Prakash Hotel Lal Bahadur Mauni said. "I am worried that we may need to fetch water on wages," he added.
However, th crisis has come as a welcome boom for mineral water vendors. "There has been significant increase in the sale of mineral water in the past week," proprietor of Dhungana Grocery Store Bijaya Dhungana revealed.
The Far West Regional Monitoring and Supervision Office said dozens of drinking water projects in the region have been affected by landslides. "We have received information on destruction of more than 30 projects in Doti alone," engineer at the office Purna Upadhyaya said.
