KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav claimed on Tuesday that the currently suspended Melamchi Water Supply Project will resume water supply to the Kathmandu Valley from mid-September.

Addressing a meeting of the National Assembly on Tuesday, Minister Yadav said that the ministry has taken alternative measures to ensure resumption of water supply for the people of Kathmandu considering the irregularity in water supply from the Melamchi project. He also mentioned that the government is advancing necessary programs to secure the dam site of the project and to provide regular drinking water.

He lamented that bureaucratic red tape has affected the implementation of some projects despite clear government directives. He claimed that the ministry has taken the initiative to complete various projects under-construction in time, requesting an adequate budget from the Ministry of Finance.

Minister Yadav added that the government has set short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans to provide clean and safe drinking water to the general public, with focus on further measures for the implementation of the plans.

Responding to a question posed by member of the National Assembly Madan Kumari Shah Minister Yadav expressed the government's commitment to thoroughly implement the plans, asserting that water supply will resume through the project's tunnels immediately after the weather improves.
