Landslides obstruct roads at several places across Nepal

DANG, Sept 6: Continuous rainfall has obstructed roads in several parts of the country. The Tulsipur-Kapurkot road and the Dang-Salyan section have been blocked along the Rapti highway.

The Tulsipur-Kapurkot road has been blocked due to rain since Thursday evening. According to Prakash Thapa, Police Inspector of the Area Police Office Tulsipur, the road has been blocked due to landslides that occurred in Ramri, Tulsipur-3. He said that efforts are underway to clear the road by removing the debris.

The Beni-Darbang Road, which connects the three rural municipalities of West Myagdi and various villages of Baglung to Beni, the headquarters of Myagdi, has been completely blocked since this morning due to landslides triggered by incessant rains. The road has been completely blocked due to a landslide that occurred in the hillside of Faparkhet, which is on the border of Mangala Rural Municipality-2 and Beni Municipality-

According to local resident Nar Bahadur Thapa Magar, two houses belonging to Laxmi Khadka have been buried by the landslide, and the alternative route has also been blocked.

Magar said that although the landslide damaged two houses, there were no casualties as Lakxmi and her son were not at their house on Thursday. He said that a police team and the local residents who have arrived from Tatopani police station are currently relocating the belongings from the houses to a safe place after clearing the debris. He said that landslides are still occurring as the rain has not stopped.

Following the blockage of the road, passengers and students coming to Tatopani for studies from places like Simlachaur and Shimla, as well as travelers heading to various locations in West Magdi, are facing difficulties.

Along the Kaligandaki Corridor, the Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) section has been blocked. Due to the incessant rain since last night, the road has been completely blocked due to landslides at three places in the Nawalpur section along the Kaligandaki Corridor.

According to Bedh Bahadur Paudel, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of District Police Office Nawalparasi (Bardghat Susta East), the road has been completely blocked due to landslides that occurred in Baoudikali Rural Municipality-3, Matedanda, Bulingtar Rural Municipality-1 and Gaindakot Municipality-3 along Kaligandaki Corridor.

He said that the efforts are underway to clear the debris. Due to the blockage of the Kaligandaki corridor, the vehicles leaving for Narayanghat and Gaindakot and the hilly areas of the district as well as for Palpa, Syangja have not been able to come into operation.

The Gorkha-Anbu Khaireni road has been blocked due to landslides triggered by incessant rains. According to Ramesh Kumar Shrestha, information officer and  Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the District Police Office, Gorkha, a landslide has occurred at a place called Sat Kilo in Majhuwa, Gorkha Municipality-13, along the Gorkha-Anbu Khaireni road section.

He said that an excavator has been deployed to remove the landslide debris. Dhurba Ghimire, the head of the Environment and Disaster Management Division of Gorkha Municipality, said that landslides have also blocked the road near Salyan Dhara in Gorkha-8.

“Besides that,  small landslides have occurred  at various places. Although the road near the Salyan Dhara is open in one direction, efforts are being made to open it for both directions,” he said.

With the road blocked,  vehicles coming from the Gorkha headquarters, including the federal capital Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and other places were stuck on the road.
