KATHMANDU, Aug. 2: Continuous rainfall, landslides, and flooding have disrupted traffic on several major highways and road sections across Nepal.
According to an update released by Nepal Police at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, some roads have been completely blocked, while nighttime vehicle movement has been restricted on others due to safety concerns.
Floods and landslides disrupt eight highways across Nepal
On the BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, all types of vehicles have been barred from operating between Khurkot, Nepalthok, and Katunjebesi from 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. because of the risk of flooding.
Similarly, all vehicular movement has been suspended on Kanti Lokpath from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Traffic has come to a complete halt on the Mechi Highway in Ilam Municipality, Ward 9, after continuous rainfall turned the road muddy and impassable.
The Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok has also been completely blocked after landslides struck the Zero Kilo and Kodari sections in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality.
In Dolakha, the Lamosangu–Ramechhap road at Kirnetar in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality, Ward 5, has been blocked after the swollen Samakoshi River eroded part of the roadway.
The Pasang Lhamu Highway at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality, Ward 5, Rasuwa, has also been completely obstructed after erosion caused by the Trishuli River.
Likewise, the Larke Benighat unpaved road in Dharche Rural Municipality, Ward 3, Gorkha, has been fully blocked following a landslide at Anderdanda, police said.
Police have urged the public to check the latest road conditions with the relevant authorities before travelling and to exercise caution, warning that the risk of landslides, flooding, and road erosion remains high during the monsoon season.
