The office has put up a board at the main gate with ´No Entry for Agents´ written on it. “They started disturbing our work. More than that, they also started charging the customers extra money,” explains Assistant Land Revenue Officer Govinda Gautam.
Notices have also been pasted on the walls asking persons who work as liaison between clients and the office employees to stay out of office premises. The Land Revenue Office is always crowded with agents who harry clients in front of the gate asking about the works they want to be done.
Gautam revealed that activities of the agents have gone down after putting up the notices. “The agents misguide service seekers, telling them that the employees won´t do the work without the help of the agents. They then ask for a little extra money from the clients,” Gautam explained the modus operandi of the agents. “The common people also want their work done quickly without any hassle and pay extra money to the agents,” Gautam reasoned. Gautam said this has tarnished the image of even the clean employees.
Though the office has banned agents, it allows law practitioners inside the office to help service seekers. There are extra notices asking them to show identity cards. The office has even fixed the practitioner´s rate for writing applications and filling forms for the public.
