CHITWAN, Aug 21: Rabi Lamichhane, Yubaraj Kandel and Asmita Karki, who are under investigation in connection with the controversial suicide case of journalist Salikram Pudasaini, will remain in police custody for five more days.
Chitwan District Court on Tuesday agreed to remand the three in custody for five more days, according to registrar at the court Rudramani Giri.
“This applies for all the three accused,” added registrar Giri.
Mahara remanded to 7 more days in police custody
Police had arrested the three on August 15 from Kathmandu and brought to Chitwan the same night in connection to the suicide case. They were presented before the court the next day.
Pudasaini, who worked closely with Lamichhane for a popular TV show aired by News 24 Telivision ‘Sidha Kura Janatasanga’ was found hanging at Hotel Kangaru of Chitwan on August 5.
Police had recovered a video from Pudasaini’s mobile phone in which he has accused the three of inciting the suicide. After forensic tests of the record and other clues found by police, the three were taken under control.
Though the family of the deceased was only voicing for free and fair investigation of the case amid huge pressure created by Lamichhane’s fan for his immediate release, Pudasaini’s widow on Monday filed a complaint demanded thorough investigation of the three accused.
She had appeared at the police station on Monday after completing the death ritual of 13 days to file complaints against the three for provoking him to commit suicide.
In the view of the sensitivity of the case, a team of the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police has also landed in Chitwan for further investigation.
