Lamichhane files petition in SC claiming unlawful detention

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court, claiming that he is being held illegally.

KATHMANDU, April 20: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court, claiming that he is being held illegally.


While he was presented before the court on Sunday, Lamichhane claimed that he was being held unlawfully. According to court Spokesperson Achyut Koirala, Lamichhane's petition was filed a short while ago.

Lamichhane argues that his detention is contrary to existing laws and unconstitutional.


Previously, he had filed another petition challenging the high court's decision to send him to detention, arguing that it was invalid. The SC has already ordered an explanation report in that case.


Lamichhane was arrested for the second time on April 4 in Kathmandu. Prior to that, he was arrested on October 18 in Kathmandu. He spent 84 days in custod
