KVPO intensifies 'Safety Pin Campaign' to control sexual harassment

KATHMANDU, March 15: The Kathmandu Valley Police Office (KVPO) has intensified the 'Safety Pin Campaign' to control sexual harassment on women and children as well as theft cases in public places, offices and public vehicles. 

The KVPO has been deploying police personnel plain cloth as part of the campaign in order to bring those involved in sexual harassment and theft cases under the ambit of law to control such cases. 

According to the KVPO, eight teams have been carrying out surveillance at different places of the Kathmandu Valley and the campaign has been giving positive results.

Chief of KVPO, Additional Inspector General (AIG) , Deepak Thapa said that a total of 1,800 people were brought under control in the current fiscal year under the campaign. Of them, cases were filed against 178 people while more than 1,600 people were released asking them not to repeat such offenses.

AIG Thapa mentioned that the police launched the campaign in 2074 BS and it is underway by approving the action plan from 2077 BS.

Likewise, the KVPO launched the campaign to stop such activities and other criminal activities after most of the cases of sexual harassment were found occurring at different parks, public places, places for recreation and offices.
