Kurmi death incident: Home Minister Lamichhane urges to postpone relay strike

KATHMANDU, Jan 3: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has directed the police to carry out further investigation into the death of Nirmala Kurmi of Banke and submit a report.


Home Minister Lamichhane directed the Central Investigation Bureau of Police for the same  during the meeting with Home Secretary Binod Prakash Singh, Inspector General of Police, Dhiraj Pratap Singh as well as other high-level security officers at the Home Ministry on Monday, according to Home Minister Lamichhane's Secretariat.

Lamichhane asked the CIB to investigate the case independently in order to get the report as soon as possible. After receiving the information about the investigation carried out so far into the incident, the Home Minister made a call to women right activist Rubi Khan, staging sit-in for the justice of Nirmala Kurmi, to help with the investigation by postponing the agitation.


Right activists have started relay strikes at Maitighar of Kathmandu, demanding action against the guilty of the Nirmala Kurmi and Nakunni Dhobi death cases  and provide justice to the victims.
