Believed to be built in 1757, the 'Kumari Ghar' (House of Kumari) at Basantapur Durbar Square has been regarded as a religious landmark amongst the Hindus and Buddhists as well as a tourist spot.
The three-story brick house was at risk of the earthquake and powerful aftershocks, causing the Living Goddess shift to a safer place. The entry for the public was prohibited due to the security concerns.
The present nine-year-old Kumari, who was shifted to a safer place on the ground floor of 'Kumari House' has already been shifted back to her original habitat as the frequency of the aftershocks has dropped.
The visitors now can visit the Living Goddess in between 7 and 9 am and 4 and 6 pm, shared Gautamratna Shakya, Chairperson of the Indrajatra Management Committee and also one of the attendants to the Kumari.
The Kathmandu Municipality has been providing support with wooden poles to the old 'Kumari Ghar' which calls for a renovation. RSS
