The volunteer, Kang Seon Yeong, with the support from the KOICA has completed her project called "Health and Environment Sanitation Improvement Project to reduce neonatal mortality" at Bheri Zonal Hospital. [break]
According to a press statement issued by KOICA office in Kathmandu, Bheri Zonal Hospital recently opened a new NICU, which was supported through the Korea Overseas Volunteer (KOV)´s project in July 2013, as a part of her project.
Among other things, the project supports equipping fundamental medical appliances for neonates such as incubator and infant warmer besides the construction of intermediate care unit, intensive care unit and rooming-in system, which can protect neonates from infections.
The project aims at advancing the quality of nursing care through refresher courses in cooperation with Kanti Children´s Hospital in Kathmandu. At present, experienced nurses are available 24 hours a day at the NICU, according to the statement.
