KATHMANDU, Dec 9: The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal hosted the 2024 Korea-Nepal Agriculture Cooperation Seminar on December 8, 2024, in Kathmandu, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Nepal.
According to a press statement issued by the Embassy of Korea in Nepal, the event highlighted the bilateral memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on November 2, 2023, which aims to enhance cooperation in agricultural science and technology, livestock production, and agricultural processing. This partnership has paved the way for advanced research collaborations between the Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC) and the Korea Agricultural Research Council.
Seminar on six decades of Nepal-Israel ties held
A delegation from Korea’s KOPIA (Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture) Division, Rural Development Administration, participated in the seminar and expressed interest in establishing a KOPIA Center in Nepal to foster research and development in the agricultural sector.
In his address, South Korean Ambassador to Nepal underscored the importance of agriculture in the Korea-Nepal partnership, reflecting on decades of collaborative efforts to support rural development and sustainability.
“To commemorate 50 years of friendship, Korea has established a Korea-Nepal Model Dairy Village in Sindhuli and launched various ODA projects to enhance agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods,” the ambassador stated. He highlighted the contributions of KOICA, which has worked on initiatives to increase rural incomes and develop value chains for fruits and vegetables.
The seminar served as a platform for experts from both countries to exchange ideas, explore new opportunities, and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening agricultural ties. Officials expressed confidence that the partnership would yield sustainable and resilient agricultural systems, ensuring prosperity for both nations.
