The statement reads, “Nepal experienced heavy rainfall in September, leading to widespread destruction, including damaged homes, water and sanitation facilities, schools, and clinics. Responding to the crisis, Korea has provided $500,000 in humanitarian aid through UNICEF to assist flood-affected districts like Kavre, Udayapur, Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu, and Saptari.”
“We are proud to partner with UNICEF to ensure critical, timely support for the most vulnerable,” the statement quotes Ambassador Park as saying. Supplies distributed include water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) kits and newborn care packages, featuring warm clothing and blankets essential for winter, as mentioned in the statement.
Korea's swift response aligns with its history of supporting Nepal during crises, including the 2015 earthquake, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2022 Jajarkot earthquake. Ambassador Park highlighted the enduring friendship between the two nations, which mark the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2024, according to the statement.
This collaboration is Korea and UNICEF’s shared commitment to addressing the immediate and long-term needs of disaster-affected communities in Nepal.
