BIRATNAGAR, OCT 14: As Girija Prasad Koirala landed at Biratnagar Airport on Wednesday evening, the Nepali Congress (NC) president looked tense, and did not accept bouquets from party activists who had waited for hours to welcome their leader. [break]

"We waited three hours at the airport to welcome him, but he declined our bouquets," said a party cadre.

Immediately after stepping out of the plane, Koirala rushed to the VIP section of the airport, not caring an iota for the bouquet-bearing activists.

Party leaders are lambasting Koirala for forcing Prime Minister Nepal Madhav Kumar Nepal to appoint his daughter Sujata a deputy prime minister.

Koirala also broke the tradition of holding a tea party for local journalists upon arrival in his hometown.

Journalists gathered at his residence had to turn back after he declined to talk to them. "He is tense and doesn´t want to talk to anyone," said one party leader. Koirala´s daughter Sujata was also scheduled to visit Biratnagar, but canceled the trip for some unknown reason.

Koirala is in his hometown to unveil statues of the late NC leaders BP Koirala and Nona Koirala at the party´s Morang district office Thursday.

However, party cadres gave Koirala a grand welcome and took him around the city in a motorcade on the way to his residence.
