Issuing a press statement on Friday, Koirala has asked all active members living both within Nepal or abroad to compulsorily donate a minimum of Rs 50 for the victims of floods and landslide triggered by incessant rainfall in various districts including Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Kanchanpur, Achham, Doti, Kailali, Bajhang, Bajura, Bardiya, Kalikot, Dailekh and Dolpa. He has asked both active members as well as well wishers to deposit the amount into current account (135-11-10075) at Nepal Bank Limited, Kupandole.
At least 39 people have lost their lives, while hundreds have been displaced due to flood and landslides.
Expressing condolence over the deaths, Koirala has also directed party leaders, cadres and social organizations at local level to collect details of the loss caused by the flood and landslides.
Meanwhile, a delegation led by NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel had reached the residence of Chairman Khil Raj Regmi at Baluwatar Friday morning and asked the government to expedite relief and rehabilitation efforts. The delegation comprising NC leaders from mid- western and far-western regions asked Regmi to initiate diplomatic efforts to prevent possible disaster that could be unleashed by hydro dams in future.
The team included NC Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu, Central Working Committee members Badri Pandey, NP Saud and former minister Tarini Dutta Chataut. The delegation members while complaining that Darchula had to see such a level of disaster due to Indian side opening flood gates of Dhauliganga dam, asked the government to initiate dialogue with Indian government through a diplomatic channel not to let similar situation arise in future.
