Koirala receives Manhae Prize

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Manhae Foundation of South Korea on Friday awarded social worker Anuradha Koirala with Manhae Prize amidst a function in Seoul.



Maiti Nepal’s founder chairperson Koirala, also declared CNN Hero 2011, was awarded for her ‘exemplary contribution against violence’.



The prize carries a purse of KRW 50 million – approximately NRs. 3.35 million along with a gold medal.[break]



“The prize will provide me more energy for the campaign against human trafficking in Nepal,” Koirala said after receiving the prize. “This is a pride for all Nepali women and children.”



Koirala, who established Maiti Nepal two decades ago, has so far recused and rehabilitated 12,000 trafficked women and children.



The foundation honors international personality annually with the prize for exemplary work on peace, Buddhism, freedom, literature and arts.



Nelson Mandela, Dalai Lama, Federation of Nepali Journalists and it’s the then chairman Bishnu Nisthuri have some of the past recipients of the Manhae Prize.
