LALITPUR, Aug 14: The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) organized a Korea Overseas Volunteer (KOV) handover ceremony in Lalitpur on Friday, marking the start of a new volunteer assignment at Kirtipur Secondary School in Kathmandu.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from KOICA, the recipient organization and the newly arrived Korean volunteer, Eunsil Park.
Park arrived in Nepal on July 14 and completed a four-week adaptation training program in Lalitpur. She has been assigned to Kirtipur Secondary School as an Early Childhood Development (ECD) volunteer and will begin her one-year service at the school on August 17.

Mooheon Kong, country director of the KOICA Nepal Office, expressed appreciation to Kirtipur Secondary School and its management for welcoming KOICA and the KOV program. He said the assignment marks the beginning of continued cooperation between the school and KOICA and expressed hope for meaningful, sustainable and mutually beneficial collaboration.
The KOV program focuses on transferring Korean knowledge and experience directly at the grassroots level. It aims to contribute to improving the quality of life in partner countries while strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between Korea and its partner countries and supporting international development goals.
Since 1990, KOICA volunteers have been assigned to various government organizations across Nepal, both inside and outside the Kathmandu Valley, in response to requests from the Government of Nepal. Volunteers have contributed to sectors including education, health, agriculture, information technology and tourism.
Till date, 500 KOICA volunteers have been dispatched to Nepal. Nine volunteers are currently serving in government institutions across Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Ilam, Kailali, Kaski, Baglung and Rupandehi districts.
The KOICA Nepal Office said it remains committed to taking necessary measures to ensure compliance with health and security protocols while implementing the KOV program.
