BANKE, Dec 8: Kohalpur has remained tense after a truck hit a student of a local Tribhuvan Secondary School here today.
Following the accident, students torched the truck (Na 2 Kha 9459) coming to Nepalgunj from Kohalpur that had hit Grade seven student Prakrti Chand. Irate students also clashed with the police.
The police fired in air in its attempt to take the situation under control. Some police personnel and demonstrators were injured in the clash. The demonstrators also threw stones to other vehicles on the street.
Kohalpur tense after truck hits schoolgirl
The accident happened as the girl was on the way to her school on her father's motorcycle. Her condition is not known yet. The truck hit the motorbike as it was trying to cross the road near from zebra crossing, dragging the girl some distance away from the incident site.
According to Kohalpur's Sub Inspector of Police Hasta Bahadur Sunar, girl's leg was fractured with truck hit. Prakriti's father was also injured in the incident. Both the injured father and daughter duo were immediately taken to Nepalgunj Medical College at Kohalpur.
The accident occurred nearby the school premises and the irate students and locals had vandalized the truck and set it ablaze. The agitated students also pelted stones on the police personnel deployed from the Area Police Office, Kohalpur, besides attacking on the other vehicles.
Police fired more than half a dozen of tear gases and opened fire in air to contain the situation. Around a dozen of vehicles plying the Nepalgunj-Kohalpur route have been vandalized in attacks by the furious students, according to the police.
Security personnel have been mobilized in a huge number. Kohalpur market has been shut down due to the agitation ensued. Some students and security personnel have been injured in the incident.
