Officials at KMC say that their office has been analyzing the manifestos of major political parties to respond to their development concerns through the KMC budget. [break]
"I have ordered the officials to study the manifestos of major political parties and submit a report," said Laxman Aryal, executive officer of KMC. He said that the office will internalize all that is positive in the agendas of the major political parties, while preparing the budget. The office has already begun preparing the budget for the next fiscal year. Every year, the KMC council unveils the budget of the upcoming fiscal year up to the middle of January.
KMC chief Aryal claimed that the decision of the metropolis is not meant to please the political parties and their candidates. "After all, political parties represent the public voice. As we are public servants we have to do our best to respond to their concerns," he added.
He, however, concedes that several candidates of the political parties have urged the KMC office to show greater concern for the management of the sewage system, electricity, drinking water and other problems of their constituencies. "We will not do anything that will affect the election environment.
We have only been doing our regular work as planned in the previous budget," he added. Almost all the political parties have committed themselves to respond to local problems concerning sewage management, roads, electricity, traffic, drinking water and the like, in their manifestos.
He assured the political parties that they need not worry about their development agendas, and committed himself to including them in their regular development plans.
The metropolis said that it will support the government in helding free and fair elections if its help is sought.
