KMC to organize clean Kathmandu campaign

KATHMANDU, March 24: In the bid to keep the city clean, the Kathmandu Metropolitan city (KMC) has decided to organize ´clean Kathmandu campaign´ with the help of the people and politicians from the second week of April.



The campaign will be organized in all ward of metropolis with the participants collecting garbage, sweeping streets, cleaning rivers and creating awareness about the importance of cleanliness. [break]



The office also hopes the campaign will discourage people´s habit of throwing garbage haphazardly on the streets.



"The program will be successful only if the people feel ownership, so have planned to involve maximum number of local people," said Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, chief of KMC.



"The exact date of campaign will set after a meeting with prime minister who has also shown his interest to be involved," Adhikari said. KMC has also sought help from political parties for the campaign and hopes to raise the awareness of the people through mass media campaign.
