KATHMANDU, July 16: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has published the schedule for the collection of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. This new arrangement will come into effect from July 17.

In a public notice issued on Friday, the metropolis fixed Sunday and Wednesday as the day for collection of biodegradable waste, and Monday and Friday for non- biodegradable wastes. Residents have been asked to facilitate waste management as decided by the metropolis.

The KMC had issued a notification to this effect a month ago and informed the people about the segregation of garbage.

It is also said that if the waste is not separated and brought to the vehicles carrying garbage, the waste will be returned to the respective homes, and a fine of Rs 500 per person will be imposed.

KMC has warned of action against those flouting their request as per the Section 22 (1), (2) of the Environment Protection Act, 2019 BS and Section 6 (1), (2) of the Garbage Management Act, 2011.
