KATHMANDU, June 14: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balen Shah and Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol left a three-day provincial government meeting organized by Bagmati Province at Hetauda and returned to Kathmandu on Monday.

The KMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor left the meeting on the first day itself after the province governor and other leaders made offensive remarks about the Kathmandu Valley. Mayor Shah said that he left the meeting, as some people in the meeting, which was not even related to Kathmandu, started abusing the people of the Valley.

"People can personally criticize me. However, why waste time and energy abusing Kathmandu and its people in a program that has nothing to do with the city. That’s my question,” Mayor Shah clarified in a statement. “For Bagmati Province, Kathmandu may be a municipality only. But it is someone’s birthplace while it is a place of work for others. I left yesterday's program as I did not feel the need to stay at a place where people keep on abusing but do not do anything when given a chance.”

Similarly, Mayor Shah mentioned that if he wanted to hear complaints and criticism, he would hear it from the people of the metropolis or in related groups or programs.

Likewise, on Monday evening, Mayor Shah posted satirically on his Facebook handle, "I am very happy to participate in the program organized to insult the Kathmandu Metropolis by Bagmati Province."
